I completed my Master of Geographic Information Science and a graduate minor in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Minnesota in May of 2015. I graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in International Studies with an emphasis on Europe and a minor in German. During my undergraduate studies I spent a year studying at Kingston University in London. My GIS interests involve two very different themes. Living in London sparked my interest in urban geography. This continues to be a passion of mine having visited and lived in many cities in the U.S. and Europe. Before having moved away from home to start university I grew up on the same farm my father grew up on. Having grown up on a farm and seeing the advancement of farm technology, I am interested in agricultural and evironmental applications of GIS.
I have been working at CDM Smith as a GIS Specialist since August 2015. Most of my work at CDM Smith is related to the creation of FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs). This work ranges from database management, to spatial analysis and data development, all the way to production mapping. One of the most rewarding parts of my job involves identifing areas to update and create new workflows using Python and teaching others to use these new tools. These workflows and scripts help increase efficiency and decrease human error. I have also had the oppurtunity to work on a few transportation and infrastructure projects at CDM Smith.
